Monday Reflection: A Quiet Moment.

Monday Reflection: A Quiet Moment

Frank had spent the entire week in meetings, going from office to office, from one meeting room to another. By the end of the week, he was tired.

Luckily, it was his last working day.

Tomorrow morning, he would be on his way to the woods with his family for the weekend.

When they arrived the next morning, the first thing Frank noticed was an unfamiliar sound. One he hadn’t heard in a very long time.

At first, he couldn’t quite place it.

There were no cars rushing past. No phones ringing. No conversations coming from another office. No constant hum of people moving around him.

There was nothing.

Nothing but the sounds of the surrounding nature.

Silence.

He couldn’t remember the last time he had truly heard it.

And then there was that strange little noise inside his ears. That faint whistling, almost like a gentle static, which only seems to become noticeable when everything around you finally stops making noise.

Something began to change inside him.

His shoulders relaxed. His thoughts slowed down. The stress he had carried with him throughout the week seemed to loosen its grip.

And for some reason, for the first time in a very long time, his mind made room for something it had desperately needed.

Rest.

Later that evening, after a day spent with his family, the house slowly became quiet. One by one, everyone had gone to bed.

Frank wasn’t tired yet.

He opened the door and stepped outside.

The forest had changed in the darkness. The trees had become silhouettes against the night sky. Somewhere in the distance, leaves gently rustled in the breeze. Other than that, there was nothing.

No traffic.

No voices.

No meetings waiting for him.

Just silence.

Almost automatically, Frank reached into his pocket and took out his phone.

The screen lit up his face.

A few notifications were waiting for him. Messages. An email. Little pieces of the outside world trying to find their way back in.

He stared at the screen for a moment.

“You are not important right now.”

And he put it back into his pocket.

He remained outside.

Doing absolutely nothing.

Listening to absolutely nothing.

After a while, even the gentle rustling of the trees seemed to fade into the background. All that remained was that faint static in his ears again. That strange little sound that only becomes audible when the rest of the world has finally gone quiet.

For once, there was nowhere he needed to be.

Nothing he needed to answer.

Nobody waiting for a reply.

Tomorrow, the world would become noisy again. His phone would become important again. There would be messages to answer, places to go, conversations to have and things that needed to be done.

But not tonight.

Frank closed his eyes and listened to absolutely nothing.

And for a quiet moment,

that was enough.
