Beyond the frame: remembering 9/11. 25 years later…

Today it is exactly 25 years ago that a terrible tragedy happened in New York, and I think everyone around the world who was alive that day, shall remember vividly what they saw, either there or on television.
The 9/11 attacks have left a very dark and deep impression to many people. And to those who have seen it happen from just a few blocks or miles away, and the family members who have lost a dearly beloved that day, this moment will never be forgotten.
Many people who lived there and saw it happen, have even decided to move away from the city because it was too hard to stay there. All because of what a dark day it left in their hearts, after that faithful day.
In 2023 I went to the city myself, and caught this picture at ground zero, where the towers once stood. It was a rainy day when I went there, and when I arrived at the memorial and the pits, it felt absolutely devastating.
Standing at a place where lots of innocent people have lost their lives gives you a very strange feeling. The horror that happened at such a place, runs straight through your body. A literal shiver running down your spine. A lump in your throat. and the feeling that you’re just too late to do something to help.
Today it’s been 25 years since it happened in 2001. And even now, it’s still hard to give it a place in your mind.
But standing at the pits 2023 gave me one more feeling too: that after all those years, and after what truly happened there, we people have still the ability to rebuild something from the ground up. And I think that’s humanity’s greatest strength. Working together when it feels like everything is lost.
And that’s probably also why 9/11, and the victims of that faithful day, will never be forgotten.
