Album review: Shadow People by Midnightmares.

Hailing from the crossroads of Belgium and Mexico, Midnightmares is not merely a band but an experience. At the heart of Midnightmares lies a captivating duality: the hauntingly beautiful soprano vocals of their frontwoman Mariel Gimeno and the raw, guttural growls of Gio Smet.

This juxtaposition creates a mesmerizing auditory tapestry, where angelic melodies clash and entwine with infernal screams.

Their music is a dark symphony, a chilling blend of orchestral grandeur and metal ferocity.

The album begins with vocal harmonic intro as if it’s a church choir, but with a darker tone in the background. And if you’re familiar with the band, that’s exactly what you should expect.

After the intro it goes in a faster pace with a female voice bringing its listeners into a sort of trance. A feeling of something’s coming and that’s certainly made clear with male vocal grunts that slash in soon. The first song, called Sanctuarium then also honors itself’s as well as the band’s name.

Throughout the entire album the darker atmosphere keeps hanging around. Bringing the album to the public during this time of the year then also is a delight for the fans of the genre and the band.

As the third song begins it brings with it the value of what the music genre should have. Darkness that holds unknown elements and powers. They are there for the listeners to explore and discover along the journey.

Instead of just bringing fast forward hard rock music, the album uncovers different influences that all have their own unique roots, waiting to be discovered by the listener. It’s not just listening to an album, the artists give tours the opportunity to go with them on a quest to discover both your own, ass well as their inner demons, angels, and everything in between that you need to know in order to stand strong in life.

The album then also ends with a message that must give you the power to go on.
