A penny for your thoughts.
Quiet harbor morning.
The sun quietly rose above the horizon, bathing the harbor in the warm glow of an orange morning sky. The village was slowly waking up beneath the first light of day as Cole sat silently on the quay, watching the small boats gently rock from side to side.
He came here every morning before dawn. It had been his ritual for years. Watching the boats, listening to the gentle waves, hearing the seagulls searching for food… those quiet mornings never failed to make him smile.
In the distance, a small fishing boat slowly made its way toward the open sea, setting out to earn another day’s living. Cole watched it disappear into the morning light. He let out a quiet sigh, a gentle smile finding its way onto his face. These were the mornings he loved most.
He took a pen and a small notebook from his pocket and wrote down a sentence that had suddenly appeared in his mind. Before he knew it, one sentence became another, and another, until an entire page had filled itself with thoughts.
When the words paused for a moment, he looked up. A seagull stood only a few meters away, calmly looking around as if it hadn’t a single worry in the world.
Cole watched the little bird for a while before smiling again.
“These are the best mornings, aren’t they?” he said softly. “The sound of the sea, the gentle rocking of the boats… and the silence that comes before the world truly wakes up.”
For a few seconds, neither of them moved. The seagull simply looked back at him with that oddly curious expression birds so often seem to have.
Cole chuckled.
“Of course you don’t talk back,” he said. “Sometimes I wonder what goes on inside the minds of our animal friends.”
The seagull tilted its head for a brief moment before calmly continuing its search for breakfast.
Cole looked back toward the horizon. By now, the sun had fully risen above the sea, casting its golden light across the harbor as the village slowly came to life around him.
He smiled to himself.
Sometimes, the most beautiful conversations were the ones held in complete silence.
